Reports To: Upper Nile Program Coordinator
Duration: 1 year (pending successful 3 month probationary period), with possible  renewal

Background

FAR is a grassroots Canadian organization which has been working in Sudan since 1985 and manages a number of development and relief programmes in several areas of the country in sectors such as emergency relief, water & sanitation, health & health promotion, food security and livelihoods and income generation.  FAR is a Christian organisation with a mission to provide holistic assistance to the most vulnerable, recognising that spiritual needs cannot be met without meeting physical need.  FAR seeks to be a model organisation focusing on capacity building and effective delivery of assistance so that the people with whom we work can take charge of their own development and have a positive impact on those around them.

Qualifications

FAR is looking for a mature, enthusiastic person to fill the role of Training Coordinator. This person should be excited by the possibility of working closely with local communities in rural Sudan, and their government representatives, to build the capacity of both parties to eventually take their development needs into their own hands. The candidate should have a commitment to incorporating conflict-sensitive approaches into all elements of the job, and have a good knowledge of peace-building and conflict-resolution. The candidate should be able to work with minimal supervision, be willing to take initiative and get things done. S/he should also be willing to commit to professional development activities that will help advance her/his career goals, and look for new opportunities within the organization to realize these goals. FAR is a Christian organization and the successful candidate will be sympathetic to the mission and values of the NGO.

What You Can Expect from FAR

FAR is a small organization which prides itself in its commitment to the personal and professional development of its staff members. Because of its size, there is plenty of room to be involved in many different facets of the organization, there is the potential for promotion and movement across sectors and departments depending on the employee’s strengths and career goals, and ample opportunity for creative input from all members of the team.

FAR offers a comprehensive package to its employees which includes a monthly food and living allowance, insurance, a generous R&R package, annual flights home, 30 minutes of free long distance phone calls/month, and a monthly salary.

Job Description

  • To strengthen the capacity-building components of all of FAR’s current and future programs
  • To implement the capacity building component of the EC-funded livelihoods program in Renk and Melut, working closely with government ministries of agriculture and livestock, the SSRRC and the ECS to build their capacity to better perform their jobs and serve their people.

The deadline for applications is Saturday, May 29, 2010. Interested applicants should respond with a cover letter (of no longer than 1 page),  a CV (of no longer than 2 pages) and a paragraph explaining the applicant’s motivation to work with a Christian organization,  to Melanie Murphy at operationsdirector@farsudan.org or fill out the following form and we will get in touch with you shortly. Due the high volume of applications we receive, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
